Owsley County Golf Association

DEVELOPMENT PLAN:

The Owsley County Golf Association obtained property in October of 2002 for the purpose of economic and recreational development in Owsley County, Kentucky. The plan for development is: (1) an 18-hole golf course as this is of utmost importance in developing this land. (2) Nine (9) holes will be developed in the first plan with nine more added later. A design has been submitted and construction funds are being sought. Additional plans for development of this property include: (1) community center/clubhouse; (2) single family residential lots; (3) RV campground; (4) cross-country track/walking trails; (5) park and (6) youth complex center.

The benefits from having these facilities available are numerous. Students will have access to a golf course, cross-country track, etc. that is not currently available. Having the facility will enable students to be more competitive. Economic benefits are not only in the construction phase but throughout years of service as jobs will be created and will be available in an economically deprived area. Two state parks with no golf courses are within short driving distances of the property whereby this facility would enhance the recreation available in this area. An additional economical benefit from this development could be new business upstarts such as restaurants, hotels, tourist shops, specialty shops, etc..

The planning state has been accomplished and the Association is presently seeking funds to accomplished this recreation and economic development in Owsley County. The Golf Association consists of volunteers who are working with other organizations to turn this dream into a reality!
